Thomas Christiansen has praised Leeds United and said his spell at Elland Road shaped his coaching career as Panama prepare to face England at the World Cup. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Panama head coach spoke on the eve of the game.

Christiansen, a surprise Elland Road appointment in June 2017, oversaw a bright Championship start in the push for a Premier League return. Results tailed off in autumn and, after a 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff City made it five successive losses, he was sacked in February.

He returned to management with Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2019, then took his first international role the following summer. The Dane guided Panama to World Cup qualification and his side meet England on Saturday night in a huge group-stage finale.

"My time in Leeds was not so long but I learned a lot," said Christiansen.

"I liked a lot the people in Leeds. They were amazing and I really enjoyed it.

"And it was also place where I had learned the most in my coaching career because also when things are not going so well is where you grow the most."
