Thomas Jörgensen made an eye-catching debut for Toulouse despite a 0-2 home loss to Lyon on the opening weekend of Ligue 1. The 20-year-old operated as a playmaker and produced moments that lifted the Stadium.

According to L'Équipe, coach Jens Berthel Askou described his start as fantastic and said the display underlined why Toulouse invested 7.5 million euros plus 1.5 million in bonuses. Jörgensen arrived only four days earlier from Viborg, where he had played deeper.

He showcased acceleration, close control and vision. Around the hour, released by Cristian Casseres in his own half, he surged forward, cut inside past Mads Bistrup, then a feint unbalanced Clinton Mata and Felix Bacher. His powerful effort from near the spot flew wide, with Lyon goalkeeper Rémy Deschamps unmoved.

Askou felt Jörgensen could have been even more impactful had that chance gone in, suggesting the time he had may have hindered his decision. Toulouse later lost control as their new creator understandably faded.

He has not yet made supporters forget the absent Aron Dönnum, who could either compete with him centrally or dovetail from the right. Jörgensen delivered five dangerous crosses, including after beating Mohamed Ouédraogo on 10 minutes, and was on set pieces, his corner finding Rasmus Nicolaisen’s head on 48 minutes. He also pressed and tracked back, making two recoveries, and earned warm applause, with former favourite Rhys Healey watching on.
