Thomas Meunier signs for Sunderland on a free until 2028 | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, Thomas Meunier has joined Sunderland on a free transfer, signing a contract until 2028. The 34-year-old right-back will play in the Premier League for the first time.

The Black Cats have made him their first signing of the summer. Set to compete in the Europa League this season, they add a defender with 42 appearances in that competition.

Meunier left Lille after his deal expired earlier this summer, completing the move on Wednesday. Fresh from the World Cup with Belgium, who lost 1-2 to Spain in the quarter-finals, he starts a new chapter.

He said he had been impressed by the club’s ambition and project, as well as its desire to move forward. He added that competing in Europe was a key factor in his decision.

Meunier could make his Premier League debut on 22 August against Ipswich Town.
