Players who are selected in January will be able to play for Germany in Tokyo, with the Olympics scheduled to start on July 23.

Stefan Kuntz, the German coach for the Olympic team, originally head hunted Muller as a certainty to be selected before the competition was called off due to the pandemic. Speaking last year, Muller said the idea to play in the Olympics for Germany would be good.

Muller was an integral part of Bayern’s team last season as they went on to win the treble and he was a key part of the Germany side that won the 2014 World Cup, however in 2019, he was axed from international duty by Joachim Low.

He could have played at the Olympics for Germany as the team is allowed three over-aged players, unfortunately, Muller missed the cut.
