Thomas Tuchel has set out why Morgan Gibbs-White has been omitted from England’s latest squad, a call that has irked many Nottingham Forest supporters.
The Forest playmaker was on the long list for the upcoming camp but missed the final 27, having also been overlooked for this summer’s World Cup. Tuchel said: "It makes no sense to nominate three, four, five, number 10s. It just does not help anyone." He was speaking to the BBC.
He added: "We can see the form that Morgan is in and he ended the season very, very strongly and was the key player for Forest to not be relegated."
"It is one thing to be nominated, by the way, like with Cole (Palmer) and getting your ticket back in the squad. But it’s another thing to perform for England and this also counts."
Gibbs-White has two assists and one goal from four Premier League matches this season. He created seven chances in the 2-1 win at Aston Villa and set up Igor Jesus for the winner.
Tuchel has selected a 27-man group, with Nations League fixtures against Spain, Croatia and Czech Republic during a three-week domestic pause.
Forest head coach Oliver Glasner said: "I think he showed maximum effort, commitment and good performances. Then it's Thomas Tuchel's decision."
