Thomas Tuchel has offered his support to Raheem Sterling during the most testing spell of his career. According to Goal.com, the England manager voiced sadness at the forward’s struggles on and off the pitch.

Sterling, 31, recently pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possessing nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen. He crashed his Lamborghini into a metal gate after an incident on the M25 and M3 in May, and police found six canisters.

Under scrutiny, the former Manchester City and Arsenal forward posted “Progress over perfection” on Instagram. His barrister said he has taken voluntary steps to address personal issues, and he is disqualified from driving while awaiting sentence.

Tuchel, who signed him for Chelsea in 2022, said Sterling has struggled since leaving Manchester City and could not regain his former influence. He praised his character as a devoted father, spoke of a downward spiral and expressed hope he can recover.

A four-time league champion over seven years at the Etihad, Sterling has since endured underwhelming spells with Chelsea and Arsenal, ending with a mutual exit from Stamford Bridge in January 2026. A short stint at Feyenoord brought zero goal contributions in eight games, and he is now unattached.

His search for a club has stalled, with Ligue one side Le Havre and another unnamed French side turning him down. He returns to court on 25 November after an adjournment for pre-sentence reports. Until then he is active with his RS7 Academy, and any comeback is likely to hinge on sentencing.
