Thomas Tuchel has offered support to Raheem Sterling amid his toughest spell. According to Goal.com, the England manager, who coached him at Chelsea, voiced sadness at the winger's struggles on and off the pitch.
Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possessing nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen. In May he crashed his Lamborghini into a gate after an incident on the M25 and M3, with police finding six canisters and bodycam showing him moving them to the back.
Amid scrutiny, he posted on Instagram, writing "Progress over perfection". His barrister said he has taken voluntary steps to address personal difficulties, and he is disqualified from driving.
Tuchel, who signed him for Chelsea in 2022, said Sterling has struggled to regain his Manchester City peak and could not show his former influence. He lamented the off-field issues, praised his character and said people can fall into a downward spiral, adding that he hopes Sterling can turn it around.
The contrast with his prime is stark. A four-time Premier League champion at Manchester City, he has dipped since leaving, with underwhelming spells at Chelsea and Arsenal ending in a mutual termination in January 2026. A brief Feyenoord stay produced no goals or assists in eight games, and he is without a club.
He is due back in court on 25 November for pre-sentence reports. Until then his career is on hold as he stays active with his RS7 Academy, and any return likely hinges on the sentence.
