Premier League champions were hit with bombshell legal decision shortly before Three Lions kicked off in Prague

Thomas Tuchel did not go out of his way to look after Elliot Anderson and Marc Guehi after Manchester City were found guilty of serious financial misconduct by the Premier League, a move which he said has left him with “a bad conscience”.

The Premier League confirmed their verdict and released a formal legal decision shortly before England’s Nations League clash with the Czech Republic kicked off on Tuesday night.

Sanctions are yet to be confirmed, but City could be facing enforced relegation, expulsion from the Premier League, or considerable points deductions.

Tuchel, though, persisted in handing City players Guehi and Anderson starts in Prague, though their team-mate Nico O’Reilly missed out through injury. Speaking after recording a 2-0 win, Tuchel admitted he should have checked in with them beforehand.

“I have a bad conscience now,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I did not actually because I am just focused on everything we have to deal with here and to prepare the team.

“I did not talk to them about the issue and I will not comment on it. I think Marc today was absolutely excellent after a tough match against Spain. The reaction was on the highest level and Elliot Anderson had a good match as well.”

Tuchel would not be goaded, either, into revealing whether he planned to rotate his side for Saturday’s match against Croatia, though he did lift the lid on England’s travel plans.

He confirmed the Three Lions would head straight to a training camp in Croatia from Prague, rather than heading back to England first.

“I cannot tell you (if we will rotate vs Croatia),” he continued.

“We have three days which is a big difference to two games. We decided not to travel back to England but to stay in Prague one more night, get some good rest and then travel to Croatia and have two training sessions there.

“We will push everyone to be available, even Nico O'Reilly and Ezri Konsa hopefully and then we know more. The next match is important for us against a direct opponent and we want to win.”
