Leeds United are weighing select free-agent moves this summer, with Harry Wilson back in the frame, but the approach is shifting from last year’s bargain sweep. According to Leeds Live, the focus is now targeted quality to consolidate Premier League status. A handful of notable players are due to be unattached at month end.
The 49ers oversaw outstanding value last summer, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring 15 and Lukas Nmecha adding seven, a combined 22 goals for £0. Those free hits were applauded, yet Leeds are wary of repeating too many similar gambles.
Wilson is the obvious candidate, having agreed terms on deadline day before Fulham pulled the move late, leaving Leeds frustrated. His Wales links and game time could appeal, but clubs offering European football and bigger wages are in the race. He delivered 11 goals and eight assists last season at 29, and it would raise eyebrows if Leeds did not revisit after coming so close last August, though he is under no pressure to decide quickly.
Danilho Doekhi, the Union Berlin centre-back set to leave, was on the radar in January and admired, though it went no further and agent noise swirled. At 27, dominant in the air and with seven goals last season, he was flagged for a reason. An approach now is likelier than when a fee was due, one to watch rather than expect.
Yorkshire-born John Stones naturally comes into view given his international, title and European pedigree, but big hurdles exist. His wages would be hefty, he is 32, and rival interest would be heavy. Injuries are well known, yet with Leeds possibly needing another centre-back if a back three remains, and especially if Pascal Struijk or Sebastiaan Bornauw leaves, Stones could add short-term poise if obstacles are cleared.
