Nominations have been revealed for the top men’s and women’s players from last season.
The FIFPRO Men’s World 11 finalists include three French internationals and a slew of Paris Saint-Germain players as well. Over 26,000 footballers voted from 68 countries for their best team this past season.
The award, which began on the men’s side in 2005 and with the women 10 years later, has players voting for the best 11 players in the world.
No French players made it on the women’s shortlist, but the three men in contention all stand a pretty good chance at being named to the final 11 FIFPRO list.
Unsurprisingly, Ousmane Dembélé (28) is on that shortlist, fresh off winning the Ballon d’Or, while leading PSG in goals en route to the UEFA Champions League crown. He was also the joint top-goalscorer in Ligue 1 last season.
Kylian Mbappé (26) is also in the running after the French skipper finished as the top goalscorer in Europe last season, his first one at Real Madrid.
William Saliba (24) is the last French player on that list. The Arsenal defender has been on the PFA Team of the Year in each of his previous three Premier League campaigns.
Other nominees who feature in France in the running include Vitinha (25), Joao Neves (21), Nuno Mendes (23), Marquinhos (31), and Achraf Hakimi (26). Gianluigi Donnarumma (26), their former goalkeeper and current #1 at Manchester City, is on the list too. He backstopped Les Parisiens to their first Champions League title last season.
Neither Saliba nor Dembélé have ever made the final 11 on this. The captain of Les Bleus has been on the list five times before. Click here for the complete list of men’s and women’s nominees.
