Former PSG star Kylian Mbappé is in Season No. 2 at Real Madrid. After a challenging first season in the Spanish capital, one French football pundit believes that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is motivated by what the Parisians have done in 2025.

This year, PSG secured a historic treble that included winning the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy. Moreover, the Ligue 1 side won the UEFA Super Cup and nearly lifted the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup as they fell to Chelsea in the final.

Nonetheless, in the Club World Cup competition, PSG eliminated Mbappé and Real Madrid quite easily. As a result, Canal Football Club’s Laure Boulleau believes the French giants turning into a well-oiled machine is motivating Mbappé.

Mbappé has seen PSG win without him and Ousmane Dembélé lift the Ballon d’Or. With that in his mind, Boulleau believes that these aspects are the driving force for his impressive start to the 2025-26 season in which he’s scored 16 goals in 13 games across all competitions.

“I remain convinced that he did some self-reflecting,” Boulleau said (h/t Le10Sport). “And I’m glad, because he’s a player I really like. It happened during the offseason — not necessarily because he lost weight at the Club World Cup, but I think feeling left out of the group of the world’s best players must have stung him so much that he had to question himself, make changes, and get back to doing what he does best. But his attitude on the pitch isn’t the same anymore either.”

“He’s putting in more effort, making sharper runs, more off-the-ball movements — things he had completely stopped doing. I love the energy he gives off, it’s crazy. His body language isn’t at all the same as it was last season at Real Madrid or with the French national team. It’s not the same Mbappé anymore; it feels like we’ve found the Mbappé who used to shine so brightly, and I hope it lasts. I imagine that seeing PSG win after he left must have stung a bit too.”
