A new era is beginning for Germany – and three RBL players will be part of it!

David Raum, Ridle Baku and Brajan Gruda have been called up by new Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp for the third and fourth matches of the upcoming Nations League campaign.

The RBL trio will join up with the national team on Sunday, 27th September, initially watching the home game against Greece in Augsburg from the stands. David, Ridle and Brajan will then take part in team training from Monday.

Germany will then face Serbia in Munich on 1st October, before travelling to take on Greece on 4th October.

The call-ups are deserved recognition for all three Leipzig players – and further evidence of the quality within our squad.

David Raum closing in on 40 Germany caps

Our captain has been a regular in the Germany squad since 2021, making 39 senior appearances to date. That means his 40th cap could now be just around the corner.

The left-back was also part of Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad, with the team unfortunately going out in the round of 32. Following that early exit, the DFB parted company with former head coach and ex-RBL boss Julian Nagelsmann, appointing Jürgen Klopp as his successor. David is very much looking forward to working with “Kloppo”.

“There’s obviously pressure that comes with the job for him, but I think he’ll handle that well. I’m looking forward to seeing him bring his values and energy to the team,” the 28-year-old said at a book launch in August. David also described Klopp as “the face of German football”, adding that “there’s naturally a lot of excitement among the fans.”

Ridle Baku closing in on double figures for Germany

Our right-back Ridle Baku has made an excellent individual start to the season, recording three goal contributions – two goals and one assist – in five competitive appearances. The 28-year-old also impressed at right-back last season, while contributing two goals and four assists in 35 competitive games.

Ridle was nevertheless left out of Germany’s World Cup squad this summer, but the Mainz-born defender has not allowed that disappointment to knock him off course. “I was on holiday and then started preparing for the season. We’ve had seven hard weeks of pre-season. When you start like this, people are naturally going to take notice,” Ridle told Bild after scoring against Gladbach at the end of August.

He now has another opportunity to pull on the Germany shirt, having last featured in November 2025 in the 6-0 win over Slovakia. Ridle currently has eight senior caps, putting double figures firmly within reach. Our number 17 is more than ready!

Brajan Gruda hoping to make his senior debut

Brajan Gruda will link up with the senior Germany squad for the second time. The 20-time Germany U21 international was already part of the pre-EURO training camp in 2024, although he was not selected for the tournament itself. “My time with the senior national team will come. I’m convinced of that,” Brajan said in October 2024. Now his chance has arrived!

Brajan has made a real impression since joining RBL last winter. He contributed three goals and three assists as we secured Champions League qualification, while he has also found the net against Eintracht Trier in the DFB-Pokal this season. The technically gifted left-footer once again showed his quality in the 5-0 win over HSV – and why he has now earned his first call-up to the senior Germany squad.

The call-ups are richly deserved recognition for all three players. We’re looking forward to seeing how David, Ridle and Brajan get on as Germany begin a new chapter.
