Real Madrid and Real Sociedad played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday night.
Here are three things from the match:
1 | Real Madrid look sharper
Real Madrid were at their sharpest since the return to domestic action after the 2022 World Cup. There was more energy in the side and they created chances to break the deadlock. Rodrygo Goes looked dangerous every time he got the ball and was particularly sharp in attack. The Brazilian was the best player on the pitch in the first half, and in the second, he had a shot inside the box stopped by Real Sociedad defender Igor Zubeldia, who made the decisive block. France international Eduardo Camavinga once again showed his versatility on the left of Madrid’s back four, getting forward at every opportunity.
2 | Dani Ceballos deserves to stay in Madrid’s starting XI
The introduction of Dani Ceballos in midfield and Camavinga at left-back has given Carlo Ancelotti’s side more energy. Ceballos was everywhere on the night and will keep his place in the team if he continues to put in similar midfield performances. After a disappointing World Cup with Uruguay, Fede Valverde hasn’t been at his best, however, he looked fresher against Real Sociedad as he looks to regain the early-season form that saw him become one of the top performers in European football.
3 | Take Kubo is getting better and better
The Real Sociedad forward has improved under Imanol Alguacil and is coming of age with the responsibility he has been given in the club’s forward line. The Japan international played Alexander Sørloth in for a great second-half chance, but the Norwegian striker dragged his effort wide. On his return to the Spanish capital, Kubo reminded Madrid fans of the immense quality that he possesses.
