A new door could open for FC Bayern in their pursuit of Anthony Gordon. The 25-year-old Newcastle United attacker is surprisingly absent from the Magpies‘ matchday squad – officially due to injury, but there is apparently a lot going on in the background

Shortly before the Premier League game against Bournemouth, Newcastle announced that Gordon had suffered a slight hip injury in training and would therefore not be available. An explanation that initially sounds plausible – but doubts are growing about this version

As the British Telegraph reports, there could be more to Gordon’s absence than just an injury, with the possibility of disciplinary action being taken by coach Eddie Howe

Explosive: Howe had only sent a clear message at the press conference the day before when he was asked about the transfer rumors surrounding Gordon. „I only bring in players who are fully committed to the club,“ explained the Newcastle coach – a sentence that now carries particular weight in the context of current developments

The fact that Gordon is not in the squad just hours later has led to plenty of speculation

The situation has come at just the right time for FC Bayern, who are looking closely at the England international, who is seen as the ideal solution for the left side of the attack

According to Sky, Bayern have already registered their interest with the player’s agent and there is also talk from England that Gordon can imagine a move to Säbener Straße

However, the record champions are not alone in the race, with two other top Premier League clubs, Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC, having registered their interest

For Gordon in particular, remaining in England could be attractive both in sporting and personal terms – at the same time, FC Bayern also offers strong arguments with the Champions League and a clearly defined sporting project

Whether Gordon’s current situation at Newcastle is actually linked to his future remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: should there be internal tensions, this could change the negotiating position of interested parties

For FC Bayern, this would be an opportunity to make up decisive ground in the poker game for the attacking star.
