Despite being an unpredicted last-minute signing, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has known about Tiago Dantas for years.
According to Sport1, the initial introduction between the two was through former Benfica scout José Boto (now chief scout at Shakhtar Donetsk) and was always on the manager’s radar.
Boto confirmed to SPORT TV that around six years ago, Flick arrived at Benfica for an interview, saw Dantas play and “he’s been a fan since and has always asked about him” ever since.
Given the prior encounters, it was the manager himself who persuaded the German giants to bring Dantas to Munich. The 19-year-old is currently being mentored by Thomas Müller while he settles into his new environment.
Dantas currently plays for the reserves but will be able to play for the senior team after the winter transfer window.
When the summer window comes around, Sport1 says Bayern have the option to purchase for €7.5m.
