Tiago Gouveia near Atlas switch, Benfica seek around eight million euros | OneFootball

Tiago Gouveia is close to ending his Benfica stint and moving to Mexico with Atlas on a permanent deal. According to Glorioso 1904, the 25-year-old is expected in Guadalajara this weekend to sign a three-year contract.

Upon arrival in Mexico, he will complete routine medical tests before formalising the move. Atlas have Andoni Zubizarreta in place as their new sporting director.

Gouveia had travelled with the Benfica squad to Switzerland but was already poised to depart. Interest from Atlas had been known for more than a week and talks advanced positively.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Benfica are aiming for a fee close to eight million euros, the amount set as a purchase option during his loan at Nice last season.

The winger developed at Sporting and Benfica, representing the latter since 2017, but did not establish himself consistently in the first team. The Portugal under-21 international now seeks regular football and a more prominent role.
