It was only after the Celtic captain Callum McGregor told him that his header had hit the back of the Hibs net did the Belgium international midfielder release he’d doubled Celtic’s lead with what turned out to be Celtic’s winner.
Here’s the Unique Angle from Celtic TV – what the second Celtic goal and listen to the contact noise when the Hibs player McGrath’s high boot makes contact with the side of Arne Engels’ face.
Afterwards, speaking to Celtic TV Engels admitted that he know nothing about the goal before being updated by his Celtic skipper.
“To be honest, I didn’t really see it going in so I didn’t know it was a goal until Cal told me. So I was happy although I was still a bit worried for my nose actually because it was a sore one, but in the end, I’m really happy to get a goal and for the team to get a win here,” Arne Engels said.

“I think we were really good today. It’s a really tough place to come and we dealt with it really well so I’m really proud of the boys today. We scored two really good goals from pressing and from a cross, so we can be really happy with our performance here and now we just need to keep on going and win every game that comes now,” Arne said.

“There’s a really good atmosphere that we have and before this week came up we told ourselves that it would be really tough, so it’s really nice to get three victories away from home because it’s never easy, and I’m really proud of the boys that we came through this week really well.”
It’s fair to say that Arne Engels was not always as appreciated by the Celtic support as he is now, and long may it continue for a player who is not only shining himself but is providing the protection to allow Callum McGregor to flourish and Reo Hatate is also looking like his old self now he’s back playing the most forward of the three in Celtic’s midfield under Martin O’Neill.

Hopefully incoming Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy has picked up on this and leaves these three as our first pick starters.
