Sunderland chief executive Tom Burwell says the club’s pull with leading players is growing after a busy window that bolstered Régis Le Bris’ squad for a season involving the Premier League and European football.

“I think our director of football was certainly one of the busiest men on transfer deadline day,” Tom Burwell said. “We’re happy that we can now concentrate on looking forward to the rest of the season.” He told Sky Sports’ Premier League Show.

“I think the Stadium of Light is an arena that players want to play in,” he said. “Sunderland is a city they want to represent. We’re very proud of the group that is doing so and will do so this season. We’re excited.”

The Black Cats completed six deals to strengthen Le Bris’ group. Director of football Florent Ghisolfi was among the busiest on deadline day amid the Malick Fofana drama.
