Benfica have confirmed Tomás Araújo has signed a new contract to June 2031, adding two years to an agreement that had been due to end in 2029. The club said in a statement that the 24-year-old centre-back has committed his future.
There has been no official confirmation of any salary element, although reports in Portugal indicate the update includes improved terms. Araújo has been gaining influence under Marco Silva.
He is part of the first-team captaincy group, reflecting his status at the club. He joined in 2016/17 and rose through the ranks before cementing his place among the seniors.
His only season away came in 2022/23 on loan at Gil Vicente. Since returning, he has consolidated himself as an important figure for Benfica.
This season he has made seven appearances and scored once, against Hearts in the Europa League third qualifying round. The 2031 renewal underlines the club’s commitment to his continued role.
