Tomás Araújo has informed Benfica he intends to stay despite interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, according to Glorioso 1904.
After the World Cup, the Portugal international will focus solely on Benfica. He is not considering a move and wants to win the league title for the first time. He spent 2022/2023 on loan at Gil Vicente.
Nicolás Otamendi’s move to River Plate elevates Araújo’s standing. The 24-year-old becomes one of the captains and an undisputed starter, something that had not happened recently.
Araújo is under contract until June 2029 and has an 80 million euros release clause. José Mourinho admires the centre-back but is not considering signing him.
Rui Costa wants a homegrown central defensive pairing from the Seixal academy, with Araújo and António Silva together since the youth ranks. Even so, Benfica are seeking two centre-backs, one of them more experienced.
