Tomás Araújo is on the brink of his 100th Benfica appearance, with the milestone potentially arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu in the Champions League against Real Madrid.
Record writes that the No 44, a regular pick under José Mourinho, could reach the mark in Madrid if all goes to plan. Benfica trail 1-0 from the first leg at the Estádio da Luz.
He stands on 99 official first-team games since breaking through in 2023/24 after a successful loan at Gil Vicente. Of those, he has started 76. He is 23.
Araújo will travel with Mourinho’s squad to Madrid this morning to continue preparations. Mourinho is suspended for the match and will not speak to the media, with João Tralhão handling duties.
This season he has made 32 appearances, 17 in Liga Portugal Betclic, eight in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Liga Portugal Meu Super. Across 2,178 minutes he has one goal and one assist. He is valued at 28 million euros.
