The 35-year-old found the back of the net in the closing stages at Bramall Lane to seal all three points for Cesar Peixoto’s side.

The forward has now scored three times from six appearances in the Championship since making his return to Molineux in the summer.

Wolves have now won three of their opening six games, leaving them with a total of 11 points from a possible 18.

The Old Gold are aiming to earn promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt this season, having been relegated in the previous campaign.

And it has been a promising start for the club, who have lost just once in these early stages of the new term.

Jimenez posted on social media to celebrate his match-winning goal against Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

The Mexico international included a photo of himself celebrating in front of the away fans at Bramall Lane, as he acknowledged the importance of a positive result on the road.

“Three points away from home,” wrote Jimenez, via Instagram.

James responded by liking the post, while Doyle replied with a heart emoji and a praising hands emoji.

Jimenez has made a positive impact since sealing his return to the club over the summer following his exit from Fulham.

Goals against Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and now Sheffield United have helped the team to seven points, while an assist against Preston North End also contributed to a 3-1 victory at Deepdale.

The 35-year-old first joined the Midlands outfit in the summer of 2018 following their most recent promotion to the Premier League.

But now he is hoping to be a central figure for their next promotion from the Championship, with the team now seventh in the table.

Wolves’ early season form

Wolves began the campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Blackburn, before earning wins against Preston and Stoke.

A 4-2 loss to promotion rivals West Ham is their only blemish from their opening six games, having also drawn with Birmingham City before this win over Sheffield United.

Wolves have a game in hand on their Championship rivals, and are just three points off top spot in this early phase of the campaign.

Next up for Peixoto’s side is an EFL Cup clash against Everton on 16 September in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Raul Jimenez with another important goal for Wolves

The return of Jimenez is proving a smart piece of business already, with the forward showing his class in the Championship.

The winner against Sheffield United was a great showcase of his instincts in the box, popping up to slot home the winner on the cusp of stoppage time.

Having someone of this quality in the squad will be a huge advantage in the battle for promotion, as not many teams in the division have someone at that level leading the line.

While there are always those who warn that it’s never worth going back for a second run, Jimenez is only adding to his Wolves legacy since confirming his return in the summer.
