Tony Mowbray has returned to Blackburn Rovers for a second spell as head coach, and a move to add former Sunderland coach Mike Dodds to his staff has been mooted. Reports have suggested Mowbray is keen to reunite with Dodds, who is currently assistant at Oxford United.
The 62-year-old previously led Rovers for five years from February 2017. He later took over at Sunderland after Alex Neil left for Stoke City in August 2022.
At the Stadium of Light he steered the Black Cats into the Championship play-offs. Their bid ended with a semi-final defeat to Luton Town.
Mowbray departed Sunderland in early December 2023, then spent time in charge of Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion. Blackburn confirmed his appointment on Friday, ending an absence of just over a year from management.
“It almost feels like I’m coming back to finish the job, because the aim of every team in the Championship is to try and get to the Premier League.” He told the club website. “Football burns away in me.”
