Too generous? This is why Eberl is being criticized by Bayern

The discussions about Max Eberl and his future at FC Bayern continue. Although the sporting director has recently been able to score important points with transfers such as Michael Olise or the signing of Vincent Kompany, there is still internal criticism of the 52-year-old

This was revealed by BILD reporter Heiko Niedderer and BILD head of soccer Christian Falk in the Bayern Insider podcast

One point in particular is said to be viewed critically internally: the financial handling of transfers and contract negotiations. „Many people say of Eberl: ‚He didn’t do anything wrong. He got Olise and Kompany‘,“ explained Niedderer

Nevertheless, he says there are still doubts internally: „These are mostly related to the fact that he spends too much money. He has a bit of a reputation for not being the toughest poker manager when it comes to salaries and transfers.“

In this context, the very expensive extensions of Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and, most recently, Dayot Upamecano are repeatedly mentioned

This topic is particularly sensitive at Säbener Straße, where the supervisory board led by Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge pays very close attention to financial stability

In addition to financial issues, there is another point of criticism internally: „Internal communication is also in need of improvement,“ continued Niedderer

Christian Falk also made it clear that Bayern must act with caution when it comes to Eberl, because if they decide not to extend his contract, a complicated scenario would quickly arise. „If you don’t give him a new contract, you don’t let him do the whole new season,“ explained Falk. „Then you would effectively have to draw the line right away – and that after such a huge season that Bayern have played.“

Particularly interesting: According to Falk, Bayern would apparently not hire an external sporting director in the event of Eberl’s departure. Instead, the record champions could restructure internally, with Christoph Freund and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen taking over or splitting the duties

This would be a remarkable move, as Bayern have always relied on a clear sporting management structure in recent years

One thing is clear: the coming summer of transfers is likely to be extremely important for Eberl, as Bayern are planning several changes to the squad while the club must remain financially stable

Particularly in the case of potential major transfers such as Anthony Gordon or Josko Gvardiol, Eberl’s actions will be closely monitored – both in sporting and financial terms

In August at the latest, when the supervisory board is due to discuss the future of the sporting director, it could be decided which path Bayern want to take in the long term.
