Liam Rosenior says he sympathises with the Chelsea fans after his side suffered another defeat at the hands of Everton.

Chelsea were beaten 3-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and have now lost their last four games in all competitions.

And Rosenior again highlighted a lack of concentration as an issue in the loss.

“It’s a moment of switching off (for the opening goal),” he said.

“I want to protect my players always and I take responsibility for that lapse in concentration, but that’s what it is and that’s happened too many times in my time recently for me not to tell the truth as it is.”

Asked if a lack of an effort was an issue, also following Enzo Fernandez throwing doubt on his future at the club, Rosenior said: “I don’t think there’s a lack of effort, I don’t think there’s a lack of belief or determination in the team.

“I felt like Enzo kept going until the very, very last minute today.

“I’m aware that when we’re on a run of defeats and performances that we’ve had, those things get levelled at you but I don’t think that’s the issue in this moment.”

Rosenior opted to bring on Alejandro Garnacho for Malo Gusto at half-time, dropping Moises Caicedo back to right-back, and defended his decision to do so despite the heavy loss.

“I felt like we had so much control without the cutting edge,” he said.

“We had chances and Pickford made some unbelievable saves and we were getting into the final third more and more.

“We wanted to make a positive change at half-time and get an extra winger on the pitch. and Moi (Caicedo) has done that job very well before against Everton and Ndiaye inverting from right-back.

“You try and make positive changes to influence the game and that change up until the second goal, you watch the game back, we arrived in the final third time and time and time again without that clinical moment and we make a mistake for the second goal.”

The Chelsea boss also admits he feels for the fans following a dismal week.

“They pay their money, they love this club and they’ve come a long way,” he said.

“It’s a disappointing time for the club at the moment in terms of the way we lost in the Champions League and the way we’ve lost the last two games.

“It hurts, regardless of your position. It hurts to lose games of football.

“We’re one point away from the Champions League positions. We need to keep working in this way and give the players as much confidence as possible and hopefully this break of games for us comes at a really good moment.”

Meanwhile, Rosenior confirmed after the game that Jamie Gittens has suffered an injury setback.

“Unfortunately Jamie came back into training with us and got re-injured before Newcastle,” he said.
