Mexico’s top level of professional football has attracted some major talent over the last 12 months, resulting in a plethora of high-value players participating in the Liga MX.

Club América’s deal to recruit Allan Saint-Maximin, Ángel Correa’s move from Atlético Madrid to Tigres, and the shocking transfer from Pumas to bring former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey back from the dead are among the biggest deals in the most recent summer window.

As we head towards the business end of the Apertura, these high-profile players have started to show their value, coming in clutch when their teams needed them the most.

With that being said, which are some of the highest-valued players in the current Liga MX Apertura, according to Transfermarkt?

5. Ángel Correa – Tigres ($10.6m)

One of the biggest deals of the summer came from UANL Tigres, who managed to convince FIFA World Cup winner Ángel Correa to switch Madrid for Monterrey. After joining the Argentine side San Lorenzo, Correa spent 11 years in the Spanish capital, making 469 appearances, scoring 84 goals, and providing 64 assists.

Unexpectedly, his move to Mexico brought a lot of attention as a player with a hugely successful career in Europe and a regular place in the reigning World Cup champions, and his start in the country had lived up to expectations. In his first 14 matches for Los Universitarios, Correa has scored nine times, including back-to-back braces in the Leagues Cup against Houston Dynamos and San Diego FC.

His presence on the Tigres side has had an immediate impact, giving them an outside chance at the Apertura title.

4. Alejandro Zendejas – Club América ($10.6m)

The crown jewel in the América side is 27-year-old Álex Zendejas. Mexico-born, Zendejas spent his youth in Texas and has become a USA international, becoming a crucial player for club and country.

During his three years with Las Águilas, the attacking midfielder has lifted the Liga MX title three times, providing 42 goals in 123 games. To start this season, the American has seven goal contributions in 11 appearances, playing a pivotal role in América’s win in the Clásico Capitalino against Pumas, scoring a brace in the 4-1 victory.

3. Álvaro Fidalgo – Club América ($10.6m)

The second América to make this list is the Spanish midfielder, Álvaro Fidalgo. As a more defensive option in André Jardine’s squad, Fidalgo joined the club in 2021 from CD Castellón, but rose through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth academy: Real Madrid Castilla.

Like Zendejas, Fidalgo is also a three-time Liga MX champion, whilst also being a two-time Liga MX All-Star.

2. Alexis Vega – Toluca ($11.7m)

Last season’s Liga MX Player of the Year, Alexis Vega, rose to second in the list of highest valued players in the league.

In 2024, Vega made the decision to return to his boyhood club, Toluca, after three years in Guadalajara with Chivas. Fast forward a year, and that decision has paid off immensely, becoming one of the best players in the league, lifting the Liga MX title for the first time in his career. Vega helped take Los Rojos Diablos to the top of Mexican football for the first time in 15 years.

His rise to the top of Mexico caught the eye of many teams in Europe, with teams in Greece and Turkey seemingly interested in his signature; however, a move never materialised as the winger continues his blistering form by adding seven assists to his record to start the Apertura, whilst Toluca remain red-hot favourites to retain the title.

At the same time, Vega became a regular in the national team and is expected to play an important role as Mexico hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup next summer.

1. Allan Saint-Maximin- Club América ($15.25m)

The Liga MX’s highest valued player is former Premier League and Ligue 1 star Allan Saint-Maximin.

Club América’s third star to make the list moved to the club this summer from Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia after failing to make an impression. Saint-Maximin moved to the Saudi Pro League in 2023 from Premier League Newcastle United, but after an underwhelming first season with the club, he went on loan to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, where he was unable to earn a permanent move.

Looking for a new home, Saint-Maximin took advantage of the interest of Mexico’s most decorated side as he tries to rediscover the form that made him so dangerous in England and France. To kickstart life in Mexico, Saint-Maximin made himself an instant fan favorite by scoring a last-minute winner against Atlas before sealing all three points in América’s win against Querétaro.
