Latest news from Bayern

After the successful trip to Lisbon as well as the hard-fought win at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Cup first round, it’s back to league business for FC Bayern Women – and a very familiar opponent. The Munich girls have good memories of recent encounters with Eintracht: FCB are unbeaten in 12 successive clashes with SGE since a 3-2 defeat in October 2021. In that period they’ve claimed nine wins and three draws.

Despite this impressive record, it’s rarely been a breeze against Frankfurt. In the cup in particular, the two teams have produced a number of close and tense encounters. The semi-final in 2024 went to penalties after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes, while the 2025 semi-final was in the balance for a long time before Bayern triumphed 4-1 in extra time.

Opponents: Eintracht Frankfurt

The hosts have registered four wins and one draw in the first five matchdays of the campaign, making them the only other unbeaten side in the German top flight along with Bayern and putting them second in the table with 13 points. Niko Arnautis’ side showed great character in their last league outing against promoted 1. FSV Mainz 05, coming from 2-0 down at the break to win 3-2 in front of a crowd of 16,500 at the MEWA ARENA.

Things are going to plan for Frankfurt in the other competitions, too. Last weekend they thrashed Karlsruher SC 6-1 in the first round of the DFB Cup, before advancing to the last 16 of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup in midweek with a 4-1 win over FH Hafnarfjördur, which completed a 5-1 aggregate success.

Team news

Head coach José Barcala is still without Lena Oberdorf and Magdalena Eriksson (both knee). Jovana Damnjanović and Vanessa Gilles have also been ruled out for the coming weeks with muscular problems.

Pre-match thoughts

José Barcala: “Eintracht Frankfurt are in a very good spell at the moment and will be hugely challenging opponents. They’re extremely aggressive in their transitions and have some very dangerous players in (Laura) Freigang, (Ereleta) Memeti and (Larissa) Mühlhaus. We have to stay precise, compact and focused over 90 minutes – otherwise Frankfurt can punish any lapses.”

Giulia Gwinn: “Playing in Frankfurt is always a battle. The fans especially turn up the temperature there and they’ve had a settled team over many years, so we know what to expect. Nevertheless, we can go to Frankfurt with confidence because we’re still unbeaten in the league and have good momentum. We’re looking forward to the game and want to lay down another marker before the international break.”

Ena Mahmutovic: “We have to implement our game, regardless of what plan Frankfurt have. If we concentrate on our strengths, remain compact, play with full focus and are consistent in our press, then I’m confident we’ll win.”
