The festive season is a football lover's dream, with games coming thick and fast. While the weather might not always be great, the high-quality stadiums and groundspeople are always on hand to make sure games go ahead (look away, Blackburn Rovers fans).

As we prepare for some great football action, anyone playing fantasy football or planning to place bets on games will be keeping a close eye on the fixture list. The top online betting platforms in the UK will, as always, offer a wide variety of markets for fans to put their money where their mouth is in terms of predictions.

With this in mind, we thought we would point out some of the fixtures that will have more Christmas spice than a cup of warm spiced cider.

Boxing Day is traditionally spent watching old movies on TV, eating leftover Turkey, and grazing on the sweets and chocolates that are synonymous with a great British Christmas. This year, Boxing Day falls on a Friday, meaning those who enjoy the post-Christmas chillout period can keep it running into the weekend.

This year, there are some great fixtures taking place just after Christmas, with Manchester United taking on Newcastle at Old Trafford on Boxing Day in an evening kick-off, live on Sky.

Ruben Amorim's team has shown glimpses of promise, while Newcastle have struggled a bit this season; however, there isn't much between the clubs, and this could be a great battle.

In the early kick-off on Saturday, Manchester City will be expected to win away at Forest, while Arsenal will have to wait until 3 PM for their home game against Brighton. The game of the day could be the late kick-off at 5:30, with Chelsea at home against an impressive Aston Villa.

Sunday sees newly promoted Sunderland and Leeds battle it out at 2, before a London Derby between Crystal Palace and Spurs rounds off the weekend action.

New Year fixtures are split this season, with games taking place on Tuesday the 30th and Thursday the 1st, with all games taking place in the evening. The Arsenal vs Aston Villa clash on the 30th is the standout fixture, with Villa facing a difficult few games.

Manchester City will be able to see in the New Year knowing how those teams around them have done before heading to Sunderland for their 8 PM kick-off on New Year's Day.

Fans will then be treated to another action-packed weekend, on the 3rd and 4th of January, with another full fixture list.

Aston Villa kick off the weekend's action with what on paper appears to be an easier tie at home against Nottingham Forest. The final game of the weekend, taking place at 5:30 PM on Sunday between Manchester City and Chelsea, looks like the big match of the weekend, but the Leeds vs Manchester United game could be a powder keg. There is no love lost between these two, and the teams are as close in quality as they have been in years.
