Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could move in for Monaco talent Maghnes Akliouche this summer. O’Rourke said, “The one that seems to be catching their eye is the Monaco star, Maghnes Akliouche.
“He’s a very talented young player, and could be available for around £47.5million.
“He’s a top young player, 23 years old, probably one of the most exciting young talents in Ligue 1 right now – he can play as a winger, or as a number 10 as well.
“If Tottenham aren’t able to resurrect their deal for Savinho, Akliouche would be a decent alternative, and it does seem that Monaco would sell at the right price.”
Akliouche enjoyed a good run of form at the French club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old registered seven goals and 12 assists in 43 matches for Monaco last season across all fronts.
The French sensation proved his worth in the opponent’s half as he averaged 2.28 shots per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He kept 27.9% of his attempts on target. Akliouche was even accurate when distributing possession after making 81.3% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via fbref.com).
Akliouche can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The French talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play in the number ten position if needed. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Spurs manage to snap him up this summer.
Akliouche will bring more firepower to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s attack. He has what it takes to compete with Mohammed Kudus for a regular first-team spot at the North London club.
At 23, Akliouche has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good option for Spurs to consider in this transfer window.
