In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Tottenham Hotspur remain confident about recruiting Brighton and Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Dutch centre-back in this transfer window.
The 26-year-old had a solid campaign at Brighton last season when he produced a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. Van Hecke scored three times and earned three assists in 40 matches for the Seagulls last season on all fronts.
The Dutch defender is currently among the best centre-backs in the Premier League. Therefore, it is no surprise that Spurs are showing interest in signing him in this transfer period.
His current contract at the American Express Community Stadium will expire at the end of next season, which could open the door for Tottenham to recruit him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Van Hecke is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.89m, the Dutch talent can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He has got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the North London club.
We can expect Van Hecke to add more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi’s backline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.
At 26, Van Hecke has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue later this year. He will also help Tottenham challenge across all competitions in the coming years. Therefore, the London outfit would be wise to go all out to snap the Dutch defensive ace up before the end of this transfer window.
