Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Roberto De Zerbi with seven games left, yet injuries persist as Leeds United await in early May. Spurs will host Leeds in what is the third-to-last fixture for both sides.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Spurs parted company with Igor Tudor after a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Croatian lasted 44 days and left the club one point from the drop zone. De Zerbi arrived on Tuesday and is believed to have signed a five-year deal without a relegation clause.
De Zerbi said he was delighted to join and that talks with the hierarchy underlined an ambition to build a side capable of major achievements with exciting football. He said the short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, with full focus until the final whistle.
His first match is at Sunderland. Midfielder Pape Sarr missed Senegal’s 3-1 win over Gambia on Tuesday, reportedly with a shoulder issue. He has over a week to recover, but any time out would hinder early work on De Zerbi’s style and further thin his options.
Sarr has played 22 Premier League games, scoring two and assisting three. De Zerbi is without Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma.
