Tottenham lodge enquiry for €55 million-rated Barcelona forward but PSG lead the race | OneFootball

Ferran Torres is quickly becoming one of the hottest names in this summer’s transfer market.

With several clubs searching for a striker, the Barcelona forward’s contract situation has made him an attractive target across Europe.

Ferran has just one year remaining on his deal, and talks over a new contract have yet to begin. While Paris Saint-Germain remain the club pushing hardest for his signature, they are no longer alone.

According to TeamTalk (h/t SPORT), Tottenham Hotspur have contacted the player’s representatives to enquire about his situation and assess the possibility of bringing him back to the Premier League.

Their pursuit of Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth has failed, while Victor Osimhen’s salary demands have made a deal with Galatasaray extremely difficult.

As a result, Ferran has emerged as one of Tottenham’s leading alternatives.

Ferran facing a major decision

Fresh off an outstanding World Cup campaign, Ferran now faces one of the biggest decisions of his career.

The Spanish international has always wanted to remain at Barcelona, but he also feels the club has not fully appreciated his contributions.

That leaves him in a strong negotiating position during a summer in which Barça are also trying to sign a new centre-forward.

The Catalan club remain focused on their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, but they have already informed Ferran that they intend to offer him a contract extension from September onwards, once financial fair play restrictions become more manageable.

PSG still ahead

The French champions have intensified their efforts to sign Ferran, with manager Luis Enrique personally involved in discussions in an attempt to convince the Barcelona forward to move to Paris.

The next week is expected to be decisive. Ferran is due to return for Barcelona’s preseason on 10 August, and before then he is expected to make his intentions clear to the club.

Should he indicate a willingness to leave, formal negotiations over a transfer could begin.

Barcelona want to keep Ferran – but on their terms

Barcelona’s preference remains to retain Ferran, who is valued highly both on and off the pitch. However, the club have no plans to break their wage structure.

Any renewal offer will be measured, with no salary increase currently planned, as Hansi Flick does not yet consider Ferran an automatic starter.

Every scenario remains possible. If Ferran reaches an agreement with another club, Barcelona would likely be forced to negotiate his departure.

Internally, the club have set a minimum asking price of €55 million, matching the fee they originally paid Manchester City to sign the Spanish forward.
