Summer signing is ready for his Premier League debut as vice-captain returns to training

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Savio is fit ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The 22-year-old scored and assisted on debut against Charlton Athletic last week, but was absent as Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle, with De Zerbi stating the Brazilian winger had suffered muscle fatigue in training.

De Zerbi said ahead of the Newcastle game that he hoped to have Savio back in time to face Forest, and he said he would be available for selection at the City Ground.

“We are all available to play ... the other players are all good. Savio is back,” he said.

James Maddison is also back in training after an injury disrupted start to the season.

Maddison has been out injured since suffering a shoulder fracture during Spurs’ 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

The 29-year-old missed Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United as the north London club’s difficult start to the new campaign continued.

After missing the majority of last season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Maddison has struggled to work his way back to full fitness and was used sparingly during pre-season.

De Zerbi has been cautious about rushing Maddison back to action, but could offer the player some minutes against Forest on Saturday.

“Normally, Maddison started [training] yesterday with us,” the Spurs boss said.

Spurs are still searching for their first league points of the season, having conceded five and scored zero goals in losing to Brentford and Newcastle.
