Spurs may have to accelerate January transfer plans with attacking options depleted
Tottenham suffered a concerning new injury blow as Mohammed Kudus was forced off early against Sunderland.
Kudus, who has started all of Spurs’ last nine Premier League games, went down off the ball and was seen holding his left thigh in the 16th minute of Sunday’s top-flight match in north London.
The 25-year-old required treatment on the pitch before being replaced by Randal Kolo Muani and heading straight down the tunnel.
Kudus’ injury comes just days after Spurs sanctioned the £35million departure of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace.
The Welsh international, who was Spurs’ top goalscorer across all competitions last season, had been behind Kudus in the pecking order under head coach Thomas Frank and left in search of more game time.
Kudus, who has three goals and six assists to his name so far this term, has been a mainstay under Frank since his £55million move from London rivals West Ham in the summer, and his injury leaves Tottenham short of options in attack.
Frank has consistently reiterated that Spurs will be active in the January transfer market and Kudus’ injury could force the club to move quickly to replace him and Johnson.
Without Kudus, Spurs do not have a single natural right winger in their current first-team squad, with Paris Saint-Germain loanee Kolo Muani playing out of position after coming on against Sunderland.
