Toulouse appoint Danish coach Jens Berthel Askou | OneFootball

Toulouse have appointed Danish coach Jens Berthel Askou as head coach, the club said in a statement on Thursday evening. He replaces Carles Martinez Novell, who left at the end of 2025-2026 after three seasons, with Toulouse finishing ninth in Ligue 1.

Aged 43, Askou arrives from Motherwell, fourth in the most recent Scottish league season. This will be his first experience in a major European league.

Across 10 years in coaching, he began as an assistant in Denmark’s second tier and has taken varied posts. He won a league and cup double in 2020 with Torshavn in the Faroe Islands.

He has also served as an assistant at Sparta Prague or Copenhagen, and later managed Göteborg in Sweden before taking charge at Motherwell.

His background in player development, close work with academies and a habit of exceeding expectations were cited as key reasons for the hire.

The length of Askou’s contract was not disclosed. He has had only one spell longer than one year, two years at AC Horsens between the Danish top flight and second tier.
