Toulouse pay tribute to Eric Roy on Brest visit | OneFootball

Toulouse paid tribute to Eric Roy on their French top-flight visit to Brest on Saturday night, acting through club president Olivier Cloarec. The former Brest coach died on 17 June.

It was the first competitive game at Francis-Le Blé since Roy’s death from pancreatic cancer at the age of 58, L'Équipe reports.

At 19:45, Cloarec, a former SB29 executive and a childhood supporter, laid flowers and paused at the mural honouring Roy outside the ground, between the suspended Tribune Quimper and Tribune Foucauld. He was accompanied by Brest managing director Pascal Robert, while Jules Diatta, sports legal director, and Christophe Le Roux, head of recruitment, stood back.

Moments before kick-off, Cloarec presented a Toulouse shirt signed by the players to his opposite number, Denis Le Saint, who in return gave him a black "Team Pirates" cap, the style worn and popularised by "King Eric". A similar exchange took place a week earlier at Le Mans, 2-2, between coaches Julien Lachuer and Patrick Videira.

In the 28th minute, TFC ultras unfurled a banner reading "RIP Monsieur Eric Roy" and then sang Roy’s anthem, "Quand je vois ton jeu...", which the whole stadium picked up before rising to applaud.

Stade Brestois will hold their official tribute when Paris-SG visit on Sunday 13 September, matchday four, with the first full house of the season and Roy’s wife and children present.
