Trabzonspor are closing in on the signing of Mohamed Salah after moving ahead of Besiktas in the race for the former Liverpool forward.
The Egypt international had appeared destined to join Besiktas after reaching a verbal agreement with the Istanbul club following his departure from Liverpool earlier this summer. However, the transfer has taken a dramatic turn, with Foot Mercato reporting that Trabzonspor are now on the verge of securing a full agreement with the 34-year-old.
According to the report, Trabzonspor have entered advanced negotiations with Salah’s representatives and are now close to finalising personal terms, putting them in pole position to complete one of the biggest transfers in Turkish football this summer.
The development has prompted Besiktas to suspend negotiations, despite having already agreed a 1+1-year contract with Salah’s camp. The proposed deal was reportedly worth €10 million net per season, with a further €2m in performance-related bonuses.
Trabzonspor’s late intervention has dramatically altered the course of the transfer, with the Black Sea club now hopeful of convincing the experienced forward to choose their project instead.
Salah became a free agent after bringing an end to a hugely successful spell at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the club’s greatest modern-era players. His availability has attracted significant interest across Europe and the Middle East, but a move to the Turkish Super Lig now appears increasingly likely.
Although Trabzonspor are close to reaching a full agreement with the player, the transfer has not yet been completed and final details still need to be resolved before the deal can be officially confirmed.
