Atletico Madrid defender Caglar Soyuncu has had a tough twelve months since leaving Leicester City, and his fortune shows no sign of improving. An injury late in the day is set to rule him out of the Euros.

Soyuncu joined on a free last summer, but after a grand total of 200 minutes under Diego Simeone, decided to seek a loan to Fenerbahce in order to ensure he was in Vincenzo Montella’s squad for Euro 2024. He had made it into the squad, but an injury in Fenerbahce’s last game against Istanbulspor has been confirmed as a muscle tear. It will be sufficient enough to keep him sidelined for the tournament in Germany, as per Diario AS.

His future next season is up in the air, and it appears he will be part of the clearout at Atletico. Soyuncu himself is seemingly keen to remain in Istanbul next season, but whether Fenerbahce and Los Colchoneros can reach a deal remains to be seen.
