Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and director George Syrianos held firm throughout negotiations, consistently demanding a record fee. City have ultimately met that valuation in full after seeing two opening bids turned down by City Ground officials.

Elliot Anderson to undergo Manchester City medical in New York City on Friday morning

After being given permission by England manager Thomas Tuchel, Anderson will undergo a Manchester City medical before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium, which will see the midfielder earn a substantial pay rise as he enters a new chapter in his career.

Report: £116M guaranteed, five-year deal & £300k-per-week potential

The £116 million fee is guaranteed, with no add-ons attached to the deal struck between Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, as confirmed by The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor and David Ornstein.

Anderson has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, though an option exists to extend the agreement by a further 12 months should both parties wish to trigger it.

Across the duration of the contract, Anderson can earn up to £300,000-per-week if applicable bonuses are achieved – underlining the scale of City’s commitment to the England international.

What does Anderson’s arrival mean for Manchester City?

Incoming Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca now has his first major signing all but confirmed ahead of his debut season in charge at the Etihad Stadium.

Anderson addresses the most pressing gap in City’s squad: a dynamic, high-energy midfielder capable of carrying, pressing and progressing the ball at the highest level.

Manchester City agree record £116M deal for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson

The 23-year-old’s performances for Forest last season were among the most consistent in the Premier League. His FIFA World Cup displays for England have only added to his standing heading into the move.

For Viana, the deal represents an early statement of intent in the executive’s second summer in charge of Manchester City transfers since taking over from Txiki Begiristain in 2025.

Securing a British record signing before pre-season begins signals the ambition underpinning City’s rebuild, with further arrivals at the Etihad Stadium expected before the window closes.
