Rodri looks set to leave Manchester City amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. The World Cup winning captain is into the final year of his contract and favours a move to Barca who are in negotiations over a €45m fee.

Arsenal were dealt a blow in one of their summer transfer pursuits as Vinicius Jr has signed a contract extension with Real Madrid. The Gunners have moved on from targeting the winger and have reignited their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez while PSG’s Bradley Barcola is also on their list.

In more positive news, Bruno Guimaraes has completed a medical at Arsenal ahead of his £75m move from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old midfielder is now expected to be announced as a new Gooner on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures this weekend. The deal represents a key piece of business of Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal’s title defence.

Liverpool, meanwhile, also want to sign Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and have also lined up his teammate Ibrahim Mbaye in what could be a double swoop for Andoni Iraola’s side. The European champions may be willing to let them go especially following Maghnes Akliouche signing from Monaco.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have added to their ranks by bringing in a teenage midfielder and they are exploring their options at left-back with Lewis Hall reportedly now set on a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle are determined to stop the exodus and insist he is not for sale.

Man Utd's left-back options

Manchester United may find it difficult to prise Lewis Hall out of Newcastle but there are options on their list of left-backs.

Reports claim that they are looking at Antonee Robinson of Fulham with talkSPORT saying the American impressed during the World Cup.

Here at The Independent we have previously reported that Myles Lewis-Skelly could be an option with United questioning Arsenal about a deal being possible.

Finally, Spanish outlet AS claim Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas is being monitored. Mundo Deportivo go further be claiming that Man Utd are ready to trigger Salinas’ €16m (£13.7m) release clause.

Man Utd 'learn Lewis Hall decision'

Newcastle are determined to keep Lewis Hall this summer, even if Manchester United are interested in a £60m transfer.

The 21-year-old Hall has emerged as Manchester United’s No 1 target for left back but Newcastle do not want to sell another first-team player this summer, with Bruno Guimaraes set to follow Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon out of the club.

That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Newcastle are insisting that Hall is not for sale.

What next for Arsenal in the market?

Mikel Arteta called for Arsenal to be “ambitious” in the transfer window and agreeing a fee for Bruno Guimaraes certainly ticks that box.

The fee of £75m is big, but the Gunners have done well to come away from Newcastle having spent much less than Manchester City did in signing Elliot Anderson (£116m), or indeed Tottenham Hotspur for signing Tonali (£100m). Of course, Guimaraes is slightly older in profile.

After missing out on the signing of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea, Arsenal still want to sign an attacker who can instantly improve the first team this summer and a defender to act as cover for the injured William Saliba.

Arsenal’s blockbuster pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr is over so they need to go back to the drawing board.

Names being batted around this morning are Julian Alvarez, Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola.

Rodri set to leave Manchester City?

Fabrizio Romano says that Rodri is likely to leave Manchester City and favours a move to Barcelona.

He claims that the two clubs are in negotiations over a fee with Barca willing to pay more than €45m and Man City perhaps wanting a higher price.

Rodri wants the move and will choose Barcelona over Real Madrid who also hold an interest in Spain’s World Cup winning captain.

Would Williams work for Arsenal?

We’re back with The Sun who don’t have any details but are instead speculating whether Arsenal could turn their attention to Nico Williams.

The Gunners have shown interest in the Spanish winger before and he is thought to have a release clause of around £77m in his contract.

That seems more in line with Arsenal’s spending habits which makes him a realistic alternative after the Gunners missed out on Vinicius Jr.
