After a long lay-off, Trent reannounced himself for Real Madrid with an hour of control and a laser-guided cross for Gonzalo in the win over Real Sociedad. The Bernabéu sensed renewal as the Englishman rediscovered his range.

AS notes that he had missed 21 of 36 matches through injury, first a tear in the left biceps femoris against Marseille, then a tear in the left rectus femoris at San Mamés. He had featured in only 16% of available minutes, 511 of 3,150, now 571 of 3,240.

This was his first start in 73 days, his previous coming at San Mamés, where he supplied his maiden assist of the season for Kylian Mbappé. Fifteen minutes at Mestalla and sharp training signs in Valdebebas had hinted he was ready, and he confirmed it.

Arbeloa handed him exactly an hour. In that time he made five recoveries, completed 91% of his passes out from the back and delivered four crosses, one a sumptuous ball from around 35 metres that freed Gonzalo to make it 1-0. He left to warm applause.

Gonzalo admitted the service left little room to err. Arbeloa praised Trent’s intelligence and comfort drifting inside, adding that set plays and quick transitions also showcase his qualities. He stressed Trent and Dani Carvajal are returning from long absences and will both be needed, with neither expected to play every three days immediately. For now, the Englishman looks out of hiding.
