Club Brugge centre-forward Nicolò Tresoldi has ‘not made a decision’ on whether to represent Germany, Italy or even Argentina at senior level, but his ‘dream’ is AC Milan.

The striker only just celebrated his 21st birthday in August and is flourishing since the €6m transfer from Hanover to Club Brugge in July.

He has contributed five goals and three assists in 17 competitive appearances for the club, along with nine goals in 18 caps for Germany at Under-21 level.

However, he was born and largely raised in Italy, before his family moved to Germany when he was just 13 years old, so is also on the radar for Gennaro Gattuso’s Azzurri.

“I feel happy and am satisfied with the Germany Under-21 side, I will confirm that senior international football is an objective,” Tresoldi told Il Messaggero newspaper.

“I’m not surprised Italy didn’t call me. Italy already has many great strikers, so there is a lot of competition for places there.”

Because he has not played for any nation at senior level yet, his options are open, even to a third candidate.

“Seeing as my mother is from Argentina, I even have the possibility of playing for them, but I have not made a decision yet.”

Tresoldi comes from a sporting family, as his father Emanuele was a full-back for Atalanta and was part of Cesare Maldini’s Italy squad that won the 1994 European Under-21 Championship title.

Even before taking on a football career, Nicolò was a very promising tennis player, participating in the Under-21 Davis Cup Italy team.

“My father tries to help me find the right balance between raising and lowering the pressure level throughout the season.”

There were trials at Milan, Juventus, Roma, Atalanta, Bologna and Fiorentina, but it was only in Hanover that Tresoldi’s football career began.

“I was too small then, and I’m glad with the decision we made to go abroad. I started playing football because I loved Milan and that remains my biggest dream, but I know that I must improve to reach those levels and be ready.

“My idol has always been Pippo Inzaghi, then growing up I was inspired by Luis Suarez, and now I watch all the Robert Lewandowski games, trying to learn as much as I can.

“I hope Milan win Serie A, while in the Champions League we could maybe get a Club Brugge Final against Barcelona.”

He speaks four languages fluently, but was born in Sardinia and has citizenship of three different countries.

“I always liked to travel around and was fortunate enough to have a family that was very supportive. I am very fond of Sardinia and especially Gubbio, where I grew up. I learned German, now I’m in Belgium and it’s another adventure,” explained Tresoldi.

“I love tennis just as much as football, while I also play golf.”
