FLW takes a look at West Ham United's dream starting XI after the transfer deadline if everything goes as planned

The Championship season is nearly here, and as for West Ham United, important business still needs to be done before the September 1st deadline, as head coach Nuno Espírito Santo and director of player recruitment Nils Koppen continue to work closely.

After a slow start to the summer window, West Ham have finally got their business up and running, confirming the additions of Joel Veltman on a free transfer following his release from Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst Manor Solomon joins from Tottenham Hotspur for around £7 million.

However, with each of Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville, and Freddie Potts having left the club for over a combined £150 million, whilst Callum Wilson, Lukasz Fabianski, and Adama Traoré departed at the end of their contracts, more work needs to be done by the Hammers between now and the deadline.

Nuno will believe his squad is in a good place as they prepare to take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, but will be equally eager to get some more deals over the line sooner rather than later, as FLW names what the Hammers dream starting XI could be after the September 1st deadline if everything goes to plan.

Mads Hermansen

Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was signed last summer from Leicester City for around £20 million, and having started the campaign as their number one, was swiftly replaced by Alphonse Areola between the sticks after a poor first four games.

He'd reclaim his place in goal by February, and has been the Hammers' starting keeper since, and is expected to retain his place in goal at the London Stadium for this season, as the 26-year-old looks for the second Championship promotion of his career.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Capable of playing at either right-back or left-back, or even as a wing-back on either side, Kyle Walker-Peters made 23 Premier League appearances for the Hammers last season as they were relegated.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka ahead of him in the pecking order on the right flank, Walker-Peters could be set to make that spot his own, with the DRC international likely on his way out of the club.

Nuno appears to be switching to a back four, as the 29-year-old has the potential to be one of the best full-backs in the entire division.

Axel Disasi

French centre-back Axel Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan in East London from Chelsea, and impressed during his stay at the club, making 14 Premier League appearances.

The 28-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for around £38.8 million from Monaco, but has struggled to nail down a spot at Stamford Bridge under various managers, as an exit looks certain before the end of the window.

West Ham have registered an interest in bringing the defender back to the club, but reportedly face competition from the likes of AC Milan and Roma, as this deal is set to go down to the wire.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Greek centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos was an almost ever-present figure in the heart of the Hammers back line last year, making 31 Premier League appearances for the club, and despite relegation, impressed, winning the Hammer of the Year.

Fears of an exit following their return to the Championship emerged; however, the 28-year-old looks to stay put, and should he indeed remain at the club, Nuno will have an incredible option in that position in the English second tier.

El Hadji Malick Diouf

Senegalese wing-back El Hadji Malick Diouf has been the subject of interest from Premier League outfit Brentford as of late, with the Bees reportedly ready to pay upwards of £40 million for the 21-year-old this summer.

Having only joined for £19 million from Slavia Prague last summer, it would be a quick £20 million profit for the Hammers, but by all accounts, they will be looking to keep him around.

Under contract until the summer of 2030, West Ham are in a strong position when it comes to negotiating a fee for the defender, and unless Brentford meet their lucrative demands, he will be sticking around beyond the deadline.

Edson Alvarez

Mexican defensive-midfielder Edson Alvarez looked certain to leave West Ham this summer, with interest from Köln, and more recently Real Sociedad having emerged.

However, having started in their 3-1 victory over Portsmouth in the League Cup, the 28-year-old could yet play a role under Nuno this campaign, having endured a quiet loan spell in Turkey with Fenerbahce last year.

Alvarez could be a game-changer for the Hammers in the Championship, and his presence in the midfield would surely be a welcome one.

Arne Engels

Midfielder Arne Engels has arrived at West Ham for a Championship record feef.

Nuno will be very happy to get his man.

Jarrod Bowen

Action images

Keeping Jarrod Bowen around was always going to be the utmost priority for West Ham this summer, and the news of his intentions to stay in East London will have been the best bit of business they could have possibly done following relegation.

The 29-year-old could be a cheat code in the second tier, and Championship defences will have a nightmare trying to keep the Hammers captain quiet.

Manor Solomon

Manor Solomon recently joined in a £7 million deal from London rivals Spurs, with the 49-capped Israeli international expected to fill the void on the left which has been vacated following Summerville's departure.

The 27-year-old previously grabbed 22 direct goal contributions in 39 games in the Championship for Leeds United, and could take the second tier by storm once again at the London Stadium.

Taty Castellanos

Action Images

Argentine forward Valentin Castellanos netted twice as West Ham came from behind to beat Portsmouth 3-1 in the League Cup, with Hammers supporters crossing their fingers he sticks around beyond the deadline.

The former Lazio and Girona striker has consistently played at a higher level than the Championship across the past few years, and, like Bowen, could be a cheat code in the second tier.
