Arsenal will be hoping to finally secure their place in the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League when they travel to Germany to face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Wednesday.

The Gunners have a three-point advantage over the Germans as they go into their final group match and only a major disaster would see them not take up their place in the last eight.

Arsenal aiming for quarter-final number 14

Arsenal have a competition-record 13 quarter-final appearances under their belts and The Gunners will extend that figure as long as they avoid defeat by five goals or more at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion. Given the fact that Jonas Eidevall’s side will go into the game as huge favourites, a collapse seems highly unlikely against Germany’s third-ranked qualifier.

Hoffenheim has been a place to see goals

There has been a total of 16 goals scored in Hoffenheim’s three European home games this season. The German club have won one, lost one and drawn one on home soil. Both of their group stage games have ended 5-0 with Hoffenheim beating HB Køge by that scoreline before conceding five without reply against FC Barcelona.

Arsenal’s record in Germany is poor

The London club have lost four of their previous five away European games against German clubs. Arsenal’s only victory in those five games came in the Round of 16 in 2012 when they defeated Turbine Potsdam 4-3 (6-4 on aggregate). The Gunners have been defeated in Germany by 1. FFC Frankfurt (twice), MSV Duisburg and VfL Wolfsburg.

Arsenal missing two goalscorers

Arsenal defeated Hoffenheim 4-0 at Meadow Park on Matchday 2 with Kim Little, Tobin Heath, Vivianne Miedema and Leah Williamson getting the goals for The Gunners. Heath and Williamson are out until the new year and will not feature for Arsenal in Germany.
