Tuchel reveals ‘injury scare’ for Newcastle United star | OneFootball

Thomas Tuchel has revealed Lewis Hall was not risked against Spain after suffering an injury scare earlier in the week, but insists the Newcastle defender remains firmly in contention at left-back for England.

Hall missed some training sessions at the start of the international break before returning towards the end of the week, with Tuchel deciding not to take any chances with the 22-year-old.

“Lewis Hall missed some training sessions with a bit of an injury scare so that’s why I was a bit hesitant to put him out there today but he’s an option,” Tuchel said.

“He trained well at the end of the week but he was out of training at the beginning of the week and we just didn’t want to take any risk because there was a lot of high speed running and defending to do.”

Tuchel also made clear that Hall remains under serious consideration in England’s left-back position, pointing to the fact that he regularly plays there for Newcastle.

“Lewis is always in our discussions at the left-back position, he’s the one who actually plays left-back for his club,” the England boss added.

“Myles and Rico play many times in central midfield.”
