Sabri Lamouchi is expected to be relieved of his duties as Tunisia’s head coach in the coming hours, according to reports from journalist Romain Molina.

The decision follows the Eagles of Carthage’s heavy defeat to Sweden in their World Cup opener. Beaten 5-1 by the Scandinavians, the Tunisians suffered their third consecutive defeat and conceded no fewer than 11 goals in the process.

One too many poor performances for Lamouchi, who took over as manager last January and has won just one of the five matches – a 1-0 victory over Haiti – he has managed at the helm of the North African side. His assistant Wahbi Khazri could take charge on an interim basis until the end of the tournament, whilst the name of former Tunisia manager Mondher Kebaier has also been linked with a possible return.

Fourth in Group F, the Eagles will need to lift their game against Japan, then the Netherlands, to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup.
