Real Sociedad have named a four-strong captaincy group for 2026-27, all Gipuzkoan and raised at Zubieta. Beñat Turrientes joins the quartet, while Mikel Oyarzabal remains first captain.
According to Diario Vasco, the armband will also be worn by Igor Zubeldia, as second captain, and Ander Barrenetxea, third in line.
The major change is Turrientes stepping up after Aritz Elustondo’s departure. The 24-year-old midfielder from Beasain is rewarded for a steady rise built on learning and effort, reflecting club values on and off the pitch.
After a difficult first half of last season up to December, Turrientes kicked on under American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. He became a fixture in the side and one of the standouts of the second half of the campaign.
His best displays included the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Athletic, where he scored the goal that put Real Sociedad ahead. He also came off the bench against Osasuna in the same competition at 0-2 down and struck the first goal of a memorable comeback.
