During pre-season, a number of young players have been given the chance to impress at Bayern Munich, but two have stood out in particular: wingers Tim Binder (19) and Maycon Cardozo (17).
Binder made his mark on the right wing during Bayern’s 3-1 Telekom Cup win over RB Leipzig at the weekend, impressing with his pace and one-on-one ability. One of his moves even led to Bayern’s opening goal, which was scored by Luis Díaz.
He was eventually substituted in the 70th minute and replaced by Cardozo, who has also been one of the big “winners” of Bayern’s pre-season.
The 17-year-old came close to scoring after a fine run in the 75th minute. Earlier in pre-season, the young winger started against Aston Villa during Bayern’s Asia tour and scored twice in a crushing 15-0 win over Rottach-Egern.
After the game against Leipzig at the weekend, both Binder and Cardozo were praised by Bayern managing director for sport Max Eberl.
“First of all, it’s great that with Cardozo and Tim, we have two boys who have really shown throughout the entire pre-season, including the two games against Aston Villa, Jeju and today against Leipzig, what they can do and what we’ve repeatedly seen in training. It’s simply fun to watch them. They are adapting to us, to the senior team," he told Bild.
“They are certainly also players who might get their opportunities at some point during a season, just as several players did last season. I think they are very close.”
Time will tell how many opportunities Binder and Cardozo get with the first team in the coming season, but they are certainly two players to keep an eye on.
