Second against third, black and yellow against red and white, a team in form against another team in form – Saturday's (15:30 CEST) clash with Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park is the standout game of Matchday 6.
How good is our record against BVB? Which attacking players are impressing right now? And what are the best stats ahead of this blockbuster encounter? Find out in our match facts ahead of #BVBRBL.
Both the Red Bulls and our opponents are currently on an impressive run of form. The two teams have each won their last four Bundesliga matches. During this period, RBL have conceded just once (in the 3-1 victory over Köln), while BVB have kept four straight clean sheets.
The Red Bulls last recorded five wins in a row in May 2023 under Marco Rose.
One of the reasons why we conceded so few goals in those four matches is the excellent form of Peter Gulacsi. Our number one made five saves in the 1-0 win over Wolfsburg at the weekend and helped RBL to hold on to our narrow lead.
Our recent record against Dortmund is very positive. Since our defeat to BVB in the DFB-Pokal final back in May 2021, we have won seven of our nine competitive meetings with the Black-Yellows.
Johan Bakayoko has played a huge part in our successes this season. He has started all five Bundesliga matches and made a decisive impact in our last two away games. Johan netted the only goal against both Mainz and Wolfsburg.
BVB, meanwhile, currently boast an in-form Karim Adeyemi. The Germany international has been directly involved in a goal in each of the last three matches. He has scored twice himself – oddly enough also against Mainz and Wolfsburg – and provided an assist at Heidenheim.
There is a familiar face in Borussia Dortmund's squad. Marcel Sabitzer is currently in his third season with the Black-Yellows. The 31-year-old has been a key component in BVB's midfield so far this campaign.
Marcel was an RBL player from 2015 to 2021. He won promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season with the Red Bulls and was a vital part of our team for the next few years. He helped RBL to Champions League qualification on multiple occasions and reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2020. In 2021, he moved on to FC Bayern.
