Two Newcastle United players forced to withdraw from England squad

Friday saw the latest England squad announced and three Newcastle United players included.
Thomas Tuchel having his final two World Cup group qualifying matches, though England having already qualified for the 2026 World Cup finals.
The England squad announcement (see below) seeing Nick Pope, Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn amongst those called up for the November matches.
England v Serbia at Wembley on Thursday 13 November, with a 7.45pm kick-off. Then it is Albania v England kicking off at 5pm on Sunday 16 November.
However, two of the three Newcastle United players now forced to withdraw from the England squad.
Eddie Howe confirming after the 3-1 defeat at Brentford that Anthony Gordon had pulled out of the national squad due to a slight hip issue picked up against Athletic Bilbao.
Whilst Nick Pope was forced off during the Brentford match, with Aaron Ramsdale replacing him as a concussion substitute, United going on to make six subs in all.
With concussion protocols now needing to be followed, Pope won’t be involved with England this month.

Dan Burn is the only one of the Newcastle United players who remains in the England but he will be scarcely in a better mood than the other two. Burn having been red carded and a penalty awarded that put Brentford 2-1 up, even though it appeared there was zero/minute contact and the Brentford player throwing himself to the ground.
The England men’s senior squad to play Serbia and Albania in the final round of European Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been named.
Head coach Thomas Tuchel has picked a 25-man group for the fixtures, which kick-off at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Thursday 13 November (7.45pm GMT) against Serbia before the Three Lions head to Tirana to play Albania on Sunday 16 November (5pm GMT).
England sealed their place at next summer’s tournament in North America last month following their 5-0 victory over Latvia in Riga, and Tuchel will now be looking to finish with a flourish and fine-tune his team with the remaining games this year.
There’s a return to the squad for Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Adam Wharton, while Nick Pope is back among the goalkeepers.
And there’s a first senior call-up for AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who has impressed Tuchel with his displays in the Cherries’ midfield this term having also been a key player for England MU21s during their U21 EURO success in the summer.
